経験 experience

私は辞書より経験を信じます

先日の雷直後の停電から始まります。

私はトイレでノートパソコンを使って英語の勉強をしていました。雷の音を聞いた途端、突然停電しました。停電が続いたらどう流そうかと心配しましたが、幸いすぐに復旧しました。

しかしクリニックのナースステーションにある冷蔵庫が止まってしまいました。電源プラグを抜いたり差し直してみましたが、だめでした。こうなると職員の教授先生（何でもその日の内、「今日中」に直してくれるからそう言われています）に相談するしかなかったのでそのままにしました。

月曜日に彼が出勤して、冷蔵庫の背面のカバーを外し、修理を始め冷蔵庫をリセットし使えるようになりました。「どこかに特別なスイッチがあった？」と尋ねると、「そんなスイッチはない。あるケーブルを外して、また差し込んだだけ」と答えました。「その方法はどうやって知ったん？」と更に聞くと、「以前、友人から一度聞いたことがある」とのこと。すごい！。

私は経験をとても尊重しています。

★彼は豊富な経験を持つため、ハイテク製品以外は概ね何でも修理できます。

★先日、大学時代の友人が突然当院を訪れてくれました。現在は東京在住ですが、かつて同じ大学の工学部で学び（障害者介護サークルの仲間）、64歳で長年作業療法士として働いています。転職を考えているが、なかなか就職先が見つからないと話していました。私も経営者として「経験者は未経験者より評価されるよ。あなたの経験こそが売り物だ」、「ただし雇用主の視点では、自己主張が強い人より、どんな職場にも柔軟に適応できる人材を求めている。その点を強調すれば、きっと良い仕事が見つかるはずさ」

★私が英会話を教わっている先生は幅広い国際経験をお持ちの方です。たとえ先生の言われている事がネット上のAIの意見と違っても、ご自身の経験に基づくご意見こそが現実的に正しいと私は思います。

★最近、高齢の女性患者さんが「私の経験と言えば子育てだけ」とおっしゃいました。私は「それは本当に貴重な経験ですよ。長い人生で数えきれない苦労や喜びを経験されてきた。子育て中の若者や人生に悩む人が相談に来れば、きっとあなたの話から多くの知恵を得られるでしょう」

★同様に、私自身も医師として40年の経験を少し誇りに思っています。

経験は辞書より優れていると思います。

Experience

I was in the bathroom studying English on my laptop. Hearing the thunder, the power abruptly went out. I worried how I'd manage my thing if the outage continued, but fortunately  it soon came back on.

At that moment, the fridge in the clinic's nurses' station stopped working. When I knew it later I tried unplugging and replugging it, but it didn't recover.

 There was nothing to do for us but to ask our very competent staff , so we left it be. 

On Monday, he came in, removed the cover at the back of the fridge, and started repairs. Ultimately, he reset the fridge. I asked him“Is  there a specific switch somewhere?”. He replied, ‘There's no such switch. I just disconnected a certain cable and reconnected it.’ I asked again, ‘How did you know that method?’, he answered, ‘I heard it once from friend before.’ I said, “That's impressive.”

I hold experience in very high regard. 

★He has a wealth of it, so he can generally fix anything but  high-tech stuff. 

★The other day, a friend from my university days suddenly appeared at our clinic. He now lives in Tokyo but previously attended  Faculty of Engineering. (He's a friend from a club caring for disabled people.) He's 64 and has worked as an occupational therapist for many years. He mentioned wanting to change job place but finding employment difficult. As a business owner myself, I told him, ‘Experienced people are valued more than novices. Your experience is your selling point. "However, from an employer's point of  view, they are looking for people who can adapt flexibly to any workplace, rather than people who are assertive.”If you emphasize that, you should find a good job.

★My English teacher has a wide range of international experiences. Even if his advice differs from the opinions of online AI, I believe that his opinions, based on his own experiences, are correct in reality.

★Recently, an elderly female patient said to me, "The only experience I have is raising children." I replied, "That's a truly valuable experience. You've lived a long life and experienced countless hardships and joys. If young people raising children or those struggling with life come to you for advice, they will likely gain a lot of wisdom from your story."

★Similarly, I myself take a little pride in my 40 years of experience as a doctor.

I think experience is better than a dictionary.
